News (September 2008)

I am back from camp for the year, trying to set up some research sessions where people design their own AR games or place-based tours (my current research kick), as well as time to finishing up my dissertation articles and adding them to my papers page. The gist of my research is on my research page. My curriculum vita (resume) is roughly up-to-date as I begin the job hunt this Fall (perhaps you could spare me some of the pain by making an offer?). The important thing on it is that I've helped run a deep woods camp in Maine called Flying Moose Lodge since 1993. Your 10-16 year old boy might like it there.

Who am I?

My name is John Martin, and I am a doctoral student in the Educational Communications and Technology area in the department of Curriculum and Instruction at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, with a minor in Learning Sciences and part of the Games, Learning, and Society group.

Current Research: AR Games

I am currently crafting a dissertation tentatively titled "Learning in Place: Locative Technologies and Handheld Augmented Reality Games" under Dr. Kurt Squire. You can read about our approach to Augmented Reality (AR) technology and games on my AR page.
