I never got very good at painting. I think it took a patience that I never developed. It seemed to me that there were painters who painted "things" -- they had something all planned out before they started, and then they simply (by "simply" I mean "with great skill and discipline") transferred what was in their mind, and usually also in a number of pre-drawings and sketches, onto a canvas. There was another kind of painter too; the kind that just sort of mucked about on canvas. They never really had a set plan before they started, but sort of hoped that one would develop as they painted.
